College Internship Program Program Overview   The program is designed to create internship experiences that relate to departmental needs and are closely aligned with students' abilities, professional goals, and areas of interest DOH Internships will:  Enhance educational aspects of the career development process;  Provide a system of accountability and encourage professionalism;  Provide an opportunity for students to develop positive work habits;  Provide an opportunity to test aptitude for or interest in a selected field;  Provide career opportunities and assist in gaining valuable networking contacts Agency Responsibilities: Work assignments should be related to DC Government operations only, and should be determined following careful consideration of each intern’s skills, knowledge, and experience. All offices and administrations employing interns should monitor students’ assignments and provide the guidance and support necessary to promote their growth and development. Eligibility Requirements: Undergraduate students must be enrolled at least one semester or quarter prior to the submission of his or her application. Be currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited college, university, trade/vocational school, or business school that offers a degree, diploma, or certificate at the time your application is submitted. Undergraduate students must maintain a "C" average or above under the system of grading used by the institution. (Official school documentation is requested.)   Graduate students must maintain a "B" average or above under the system of grading used by the institution. (Official school documentation is requested.)   College seniors must be enrolled in a graduate program beginning in the fall. Proof of enrollment (letter of acceptance) will be required if accepted in this program. Provide evidence each semester that he or she is currently enrolled in and attending a college, university, trade/vocational school, or business school. Undergraduate student requiring course credit. Why participate in an Internship with the Department of Health? Students can gain academic credit for their work experience. Students can relate coursework to on-the-job experiences.
