APRA's Mission: To establish a substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery support system of care for District residents and families coping with the disease of addiction or at risk of becoming addicted to alcohol and illicit drugs.
Summary of Services: The Addiction Prevention and Recovery Administration (“APRA”) promotes access to substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery support services. Prevention services include raising public awareness about the consequences of substance abuse and providing evidence-based program resources to community and faith-based organizations to promote wellness and reduce substance use and abuse. Treatment services include assessment and referrals for appropriate levels of care and maintenance of a comprehensive continuum of substance abuse treatment services including outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, detoxification and stabilization, and medication assisted therapy. Recovery support services include wrap-around services, such as mentoring services, education skills building and job readiness training, to ensure a full continuum of care. APRA ensures the quality of these services through its regulation and certification authority as the Single State Authority for substance abuse treatment services.
