Learning from prior catastrophic events such as the Derecho, Superstorm Sandy, and Snowmageddon, we know that the resiliency of a community is directly linked to how quickly goods and services begin to flow to the impacted area. To formalize its relationship with the private sector, the District of Columbia’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) has established the Business Emergency Management Operations Center (BEMOC) that will help facilitate the interaction between the public and private sectors before, during and after an emergency.
Participation: The BEMOC is free and open to all companies that are located in, or doing business in, the District of Columbia. HSEMA and/or the BEMOC participants may establish other requirements as necessary.
Location: The BEMOC is both a virtual and brick-and-mortar organization.
Programs: The BEMOC is a year round operation providing the private sector with situational awareness, training, exercises, and best practice development programs that focus on disaster planning, response, and recovery.
