1. Money Smart for Small Business – Banking Services and Insurance
If you are interested in learning how to best run your business, you should attend a workshop we are conducting using the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Money Smart for Small Business curriculum modules. During this session, representatives from Branch Banking & Trust (BB&T) will assist individuals with a better understanding of Banking Services and Insurance Choices designed for small businesses.
After completing this module, you will be able to:
Recognize the most common banking services for small businesses, including merchant services, payroll processing, business credit and others
Understand how other small business owners decide which banking services to use
Evaluate the applicability of each of banking service to their business needs
Understand their business’ insurance needs
Choose the insurance products that are best for their business
2. Africa’s Markets of Opportunity: Small Business Training Workshops on Exporting to Africa
In the wake of the African Leaders Summit in August, which focused, among other topics, on greater trade between the US and Africa, the Small Business Development Center Network of Washington DC, an outreach program of Howard University, working in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, will hold a training workshop for small businesses and entrepreneurs focused on African markets. Specifically, businesses and entrepreneurs who are currently exporting or are considering selling their products and services to African markets will have the opportunity to learn from experts in international trade and Africa some of the successful strategies, top industries and markets, and best practices.
Exporting can offer your company major growth opportunities in markets outside the United States. Today it’s easier than ever for a company, regardless of size, to sell goods and services across the globe. Africa offers dozens of diverse markets and a favorable trading climate for U.S. products and services.

4. Money Smart for Small Business – Organizational Types and Tax Planning
If you are interested in learning how to best run your business, you should attend a workshop we are conducting using the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Money Smart for Small Business curriculum modules. During this session, representatives from DCRA’s Corporations Division will assist individuals with a better understanding the Organization Types and Tax Planning and Reporting for small businesses.
After completing this module, the participants will become familiar with the common types of business formations, including:
Limited Liability Company (LLC)
Predict their businesses’ federal, state and local tax liabilities.
Prepare for tax obligations and establish proper accounts.
Obtain the proper licenses for their business and meet reporting requirements.
