The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) allows WIC participants to use their WIC Vegetables and Fruit Cash-Value Check (CVC) to buy fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers’ market vendors.

In addition to the farmers’ markets in DC, DC WIC and CSFP Senior Farmers’ Market participants can also shop with approved farmers in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties!
There is at least one farmers’ market location open every day of the week!

How much do WIC participants get for fruits and vegetables?
- Children 1-5 years of age receive $6.00 each per month.
- Breastfeeding, pregnant and post-partum women receive $10.00 each per month.
- Women who are breastfeeding multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) receive $15.00 per month.

“Farmer on Wheels”
The WIC Program works with local partners to have a farmer visit a health clinic or senior dwelling to hold “Special One-Day Sales” on-site. The WIC Program currently partners with the following organizations:
- Delta Towers
- Howard University Hospital
- The Department of Aging
- DC Developing Families
- Unity Health Care
“Walk for Produce Day”
The WIC Program staff visit DC farmers markets to encourage market participants to commit to starting a family walking program. In season 2009 approximately 400 people participated in the event during the season.
DC Department of Health (DOH) and Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) 2012 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The DC DOH also partnered with the Maryland Department of Agriculture to allow Maryland WIC Farmers’ Market participants and Maryland Senior Farmers’ Market participants to redeem their benefits with approved farmers at DC farmers’ markets and to allow DC WIC and CSFP Senior Farmers’ Market participants to shop with approved farmers in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties.
The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) was established in July 1992 by Public Law 102-314. The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 reauthorized the FMNP through fiscal year 2015 with an annual funding level of $20 million. During the 2010 market season, the FMNP served over 2.15 million recipients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
